1940-2010
Galen E. “Butch” Lowman, 69, Stanley, died March 6, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Raney, and a grandson.
Survivors include his son, Scott Lowman of Louisburg; daughter, Gayle Franklin of Solomon, Kan.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Natalie Perkins. His many friends and family will miss him greatly.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 10100 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are by D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66210, (913) 451-1860.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Olathe Hospice. |

1927-2010
Donald Dean Peckman, 82, Paola, died Feb. 25, 2010, at his home in the rural Block community. 
Don was born Dec. 10, 1927, in the Block community to Carl and Ida Minden Peckman. He has lived in the area his entire life. He was confirmed and baptized at the Block Trinity Lutheran Church.
On July 4, 1951, he was united in marriage to Pat Prothe in Paola before being shipped out with the Army to the Korean War. He served his country in the United States Army as a tank retriever until his honorable discharge.
He worked for Ted Crawford Budweiser Distributorship as an over-the-road truck driver, owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station in Paola, and while with the pipefitters union worked as a foreman for the construction of the La Cygne Power Plant. He retired from the Pipefitters Union No. 533 after many years of employment.
After his retirement, he enjoyed working cattle on the family farm, feeding the honey bees, gardening, raising an orchard, woodworking, picking up walnuts, cutting wood and working with his hands.

1943-2010
Philip Bruce Tesh, 67, died Feb. 27, 2010, from lung cancer at his home in Louisburg. 
He was born to Bruce and Flora Lee Payne Tesh of Winston-Salem and Mount Airy, N.C.
After high school in Winston-Salem, he entered basic training with the Marine Corps at Parris Island, S.C. During his 20-year career in the Marines, he served tours of duty with MCAS, El Toro, Calif.; MCAS, Cherry Point, N.C.; MCAS, Iwakuni, Japan; 3rd Force SSG, Okinawa; MAG-11, Vietnam; and as a drill instructor at MCRD, San Diego, Calif. His last assignment before retirement was 1st Sgt. at the ITS at Camp Pendleton, Calif. His awards included the Combat Action Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal with one silver star.
He earned his associate of arts degree in real estate and also worked for the Navy in Ordnance Supply in San Diego where he was an AFGE Union officer for many years.
He was a frequent guest lecturer, specializing in the Civil War, to history classes at San Ysidro Middle School where he often dressed in Confederate uniform and entered the room with a huge rebel yell. In addition, he worked with the Associated Student Body, raising funds and promoting school spirit activities.
He retired with his wife Marilyn in 2006 and moved from Chula Vista, Calif., to Louisburg. He was an active member of the USMC Drill Instructor’s Association and the Louisburg Lions Club. He also conducted a successful eBay antique business called Mom and Pops Treasures and ran popular “Mantique” booths in local antique malls where he specialized in historic and military memorabilia and articles of interest to men who accompany their wives on antique hunts.

1962-2010
Bernard Lee “Buddy” Toncray Jr., 47, Overland Park, died Feb. 25, 2010, at his home. 
Buddy was born Nov. 8, 1962, in Kansas City, Mo. He was the son of Bernard Lee and Mildred Ann Graves Toncray. He attended school at Lakemary Center in Paola.
He was fascinated with anything that had wheels and also liked tractors. His favorite beverage was Coca-Cola. His favorite food was cookies.
Survivors include his parents, Bernard and Mildred Toncray of Paola, and two sisters, Nancy Ward of Spring Hill and Vickie Toncray of Garnett.
Graveside services were Monday at the Fontana Cemetery under the direction of the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main St., Osawatomie, KS 66064, (913) 755-2114. |
