Polls will open at 7 a.m. Tuesday, and Miami County voters will get the opportunity to participate in the primary election. The closest polling locations for Paola residents will be the Paola American Legion, Fifth and Delaware streets, and the Paola Adult Education Center, 1710 Industrial Park Drive. Both polling locations are for residents who live in certain districts within the county. The Legion includes Paola city districts 1, 2, 3 and 4, as well as the Stanton Township USD 368 and the West Valley Township USD 368. The Adult Education Center will see residents from north and south Paola and the West Middle Creek Township USD 368. Issues on the ballot will depend on what party affiliation the voter is registered as and the district in which he or she lives. The only contested race for Miami County Commission is in the Fifth District. Incumbent Lyle Wobker is running against Republican challenger Danny Gallagher. The winner will face Democratic challenger Joshua Furnish in the November general election. All county residents will get the chance to vote on the renewal of the quarter-cent sales tax, which is set to fund several bridge repair projects throughout the county. All polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Residents still have time to beat the rush and vote in advance. Advanced voting can be done from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the Miami County Administration Building, 201 S. Pearl St. Advance voting will close at noon Monday. Voters can also view a Miami County sample ballot by visiting https://myvoteinfo.voteks.org. If voters are registered unaffiliated and choose a Republican ballot, they must affiliate with that party. Democrats have chosen an open primary and affiliation is not required, Miami County Clerk Janet White said. If you have questions, call the Miami County Voting Office at (913) 294-3976.
