Richard L. Mathewson, 66, Cleveland, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Kansas City Hospice House. 

He was born Sept. 21, 1942, in Axtell, Kan., to Paul and Elsie Becker Mathewson. He graduated from Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in Seneca, Kan., in the class of 1961.

Mathewson retired after 30 years at Honeywell as a pipe fitter and machinist, belonging to the Local Union 533.

He was also a member of the Harrisonville, Mo., Elks Lodge.

He loved his family and life, enjoying many hobbies such as golf, bowling, pool, fishing and boating.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Terrance Mathewson.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Deborah Mathewson of the home; two sons, David Mathewson of Hawaii and Robert Mathewson of Cleveland; one granddaughter; two brothers, Bill Mathewson of Manhattan, Kan., and Wayne Mathewson of Howe, Texas; and a sister, Kay Fangman of Topeka.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 606 S. Elm St., Louisburg. Memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Seneca.
