When plans for USD 230’s first online school were put in place, Spring Hill school officials anticipated a goal of 500 students enrolled when classes started this fall. That target was shattered, as about 700 students enrolled with Insight School of Kansas.

Executive director Gary Price said school staff kicked off the school year by embarking on a series of face-to-face meetings with students across the state beginning in mid-August. The first day of school for online students was Aug. 25.

The online school has teenage students, as well as those who are 20 years of age and older. It is a partnership between the school district and Insight Schools Inc., which has a national network of online public high schools in Kansas, along the West Coast and in Wisconsin.

Insight School of Kansas continued the new education resources in Spring Hill. The new Spring Hill High School opened for the 2007-08 school year, creating a domino effect throughout the school district.

Located at the northwest corner of 199th Street and Ridgeview Road, the high school features a performing arts center and athletic complex. The former high school was renovated to serve as the district’s middle school, and the former middle school was converted to an intermediate school serving third through fifth grades.
