Catherine Eileen Stiles, 84, Spring Hill, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Spring Hill.

She was born Sept. 27, 1924, to Harold Austin and Alice C. Busch Dey in St. Joseph, Mo. 

She grew up in Spring Hill after moving with her family from Osborne, Kan. Her father was the owner of the local barbershop. She graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1941, attended Paola Ursuline Academy for two years and graduated from Pittsburg State.

She married Robert M. Stiles on June 4, 1950, at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church. Early in her career she taught music at Bucyrus and Circle Grove, then taught elementary school in the Gardner School District, retiring in 1989.

She was a member of the Spring Hill United Methodist Church where she was the choir director and accompanist for many years. She also accompanied the Spring Hill Chorale. She was a member of the EHU. She wrote poetry and music, publishing “Victory for Christmas” in 1944. She was a very talented lady, touching many lives. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother.

She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” of the home; children, Darrel M. Stiles of Overland Park, Ronald E. Stiles of Spring Hill, and Diane E. Jones of Shawnee; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hillsdale Presbyterian Church with burial at Spring Hill Cemetery. A visitation will begin at 10 a.m. before the service at the church.
